WHAT IS THIS EVENT?

BGF will feature an art exhibition (curated by Vita Kari) with emerging queer artists, a live music showcase (organized by Swsh) featuring incredible trans musicians, and a night market with local vendors/food.

WHY???

Vita Kari and Swsh have been collaborators and close friends for 6 years now and have always found comfort and commonality with each other throughout their journeys with gender and sexuality. Being that pride month is about community, the two couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than collaborating together to showcase some of their favorite LA queer art!!!

Vita & Swsh both run queer/trans showcases, so obviously IT WAS TIME TO JOIN FORCES DUH

WHO IS VITA KARI???

Vita Kari (they/them) is a contemporary visual artist based in Los Angeles, known for their exploratory work that intersects queerness, digital identity, and commercialism. Kari is recognized for their immersive art installations, particularly the "Vitawood" space, and their engaging video pieces that often challenge and play with perceptions of reality. They've utilized social platforms as a site for their performance practice, blurring the lines between digital content and traditional art mediums.

Kari's work has been profiled in publications such as Forbes, Artnet, Interview Magazine, Gay Times, Jezebel and more. They have had collaborations with Marc Jacobs, Loewe, Levi, Warby Parker, and more.

WHO IS SWSH???

Swsh (they/them) is an R&B producer, singer, and songwriter based in Los Angeles, recognized by influential figures such as Zane Lowe, Elton John, Kanye West, NPR, and BBC Radio 1. Their breakthrough in 2019 on the renowned YouTube series "Colors Show," performing "How You Feel," triggered a surge, launching them into even greater success and visibility.

This past year, one of Swsh's major focuses was creating spaces for their community through a series of shows called “stnky party.”

Swsh’s mission statement is to create a space for trans people that’s centered around joy, and fun to help combat the trans representation you usually see centered around pain and trauma.
