Visuals with Impact: Contrast and Alt Text that Support Every Student
Visuals can either enhance learning or unintentionally create barriers—especially for students with low vision or those using screen readers. In this workshop, part of The 7 Practical Elements of Accessibility series, you’ll learn how to apply color contrast principles and write purposeful alternative text that makes your content usable for all. Through demonstrations in tools like Canvas, Microsoft Word, Google Docs/Slides, and PowerPoint, you’ll see how small adjustments can make a big difference. You’ll also get hands-on practice checking contrast, writing alt text, and marking decorative images appropriately. By the end, you’ll leave with a toolkit of resources, examples, and confidence to design visuals that truly support every student.
