Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addiction challenge or is in crisis.


Delivery: Virtual - You will recieve a zoom link.


You will learn:

- Common mental health concerns among youth.

- How to reduce stigma.

- How to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use problems in youth.

- Skills to use a 5-step action plan to help a youth who may be facing a mental health problem or crisis, such as suicide.


* Please do not register for this class if you have taken Youth Mental Health First Aid in the last 12 months.


Description: Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Learn the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to appropriate care.


WHAT IT COVERS

• Common signs and symptoms of mental illness.

• Common signs and symptoms of substance use.

• How to interact with a person in crisis.

• How to connect the person with help.

CERTIFICATIONS & CONTINUING EDUCATION: Participants that complete the full course will secure a three-year certification.
