Virtual Sanctuary : Altar Making - Ancestral Wisdom for Collective Action
Nonprofit workers, honor your ancestors through altar-making. Find strength for winter. Free, 2 hrs. You're not alone.
You are standing on the shoulders of giants.
Before October ends, join nonprofit workers and community organizers across the country for a 2-hour Virtual Sanctuary. Together, we'll honor the ancestors and mentors who shaped our paths, create personal altars, and find strength for the winter ahead.
This is for those who feel the weight of 2025's challenges. For those who carry the sting of injustice. For those who know the quiet ache of burnout.
You are not alone. You are not the first to walk through fire.
What You'll Experience
- Connection with Ancestral Wisdom - Call in the strength of those who came before through story, reflection, and ritual
 - Grounding Somatic Practice - Release tension held in your body from this year's struggles
 - Personal Altar Creation - Build a sacred space (physical or digital) honoring your lineage and legacy
 - Collective Witnessing - Share and be seen in community with others who understand your journey
 - Winter Intention-Setting - Clarify what you're calling in for the season ahead

What to Bring
- Photo or object representing an ancestor/mentor
 - Candle or light source
 - Meaningful objects for your altar
 - Something warm to drink
 - Your whole self—all your grief, hope, weariness, and strength

No special materials required. Use what you have. There's no wrong way to do this.
Why This Moment Matters
As we approach the season of ancestor honoring and the literal winter ahead, this sanctuary offers what nonprofit workers rarely receive: permission to pause. To grieve. To remember you're part of something bigger than this moment's struggle.
Your ancestors knew how to tend the flame when it seemed like it might go out. Tonight, we remember how.

About Virtual Sanctuary
Virtual Sanctuary for the Laboring Spirits of Nonprofit Workers meets the last Wednesday of each month. Each session offers different practices—always with the same intention: rest, reflection, and renewal for those doing vital community work.

This is not therapy. This is not a workshop. This is sanctuary—where we remember who we are and whose we are.
Your presence here is an act of resistance and an act of love.
