The Asian American Federation (AAF) is a nonprofit organization that works to raise the well-being and influence of the pan-Asian American community through research, policy advocacy, public awareness, and organizational development.Founded in 1989,AAF aims to overcome the significant obstacles that Asian Americans face by empowering our 70 member nonprofits to better serve their communities. Our leadership role helps us strengthen the collective voice of the more than 20 ethnic groups—diverse in language, culture, and religion—that make up New York’s Asian community.

Join an interactive workshop on physical self-defense strategies to keep yourself safe in the streets

In response to the persistent anti-Asian hate attacks, the Asian American Federation has partnered with the <a href="https://www.caeny.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Center for Anti-Violence Education</a> to offer a Virtual Physical Self-Defense Workshop in English and various Asian languages to equip Asian New Yorkers with strategies to keep themselves safe in the streets.Join us on Thursday, May 27, at 5:30-7 PM EST for an INTRO self-defense session conducted in English. Participants will learn practical ways to respond to physical threats or attacks through interactive exercises and drills to improve their muscle memory.This session will include:<ul><li>Managing distance using footwork (especially in limited spaces)</li><li>Learning fundamental blocks and strikes to get away safely</li><li>Doing interactive drills on cue</li><li>Using everyday objects as weapons/shields</li><li>Deep breathing exercises to keep yourself grounded</li></ul>To ensure the safety of all participants, we require that you turn on your camera to participate.
