Virtual Lunch & Learn: Oregon InC's SBIR Support Programs

The Oregon Translational Research and Development Institute (OTRADI) is a non-profit research and economic development organization dedicated to growing Oregon’s bioscience sector.  In 2013, OTRADI launched the Oregon Bioscience Incubator (OBI), the state’s only bioscience-specific incubator, which is now home to eighteen promising startup companies, and supports an additional 60 affiliated startups throughout the state. The OBI is filling a critical and growing need in Oregon’s expanding bioscience industry by providing labs, offices, shared equipment, essential support services, entrepreneurship programs, and mentorship for diagnostic, digital health, health IT, medical device, and therapeutics startups. Together, OTRADI and the OBI are fueling Oregon’s bioscience industry by helping to commercialize innovative research, grow successful startup companies, and create high-wage jobs in Oregon.

Oregon Bioscience Incubator and OTRADI

In the second of our 2023 Business Oregon program series, learn about some of its resources to support innovative Oregon companies.

The Oregon Innovation Council (<a href="https://www.oregon.gov/biz/aboutus/boards/oregoninc/Pages/default.aspx" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Oregon InC</a>) oversees <a href="https://www.oregon.gov/biz/Pages/default.aspx" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Business Oregon</a>’s innovation programs and has a variety of resources to support innovators to take new technologies from idea to market. It provides crucial early funding that promising technologies and entrepreneurs need to grow. Learn about one of their programs that help innovation-based companies accelerate their growth and access private capital in their early stages.As part of the State&#x27;s efforts to assist innovative companies, Oregon InC’s <a href="https://www.oregon.gov/biz/programs/SBIR-STTR/Pages/default.aspx" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">SBIR Support Program</a> helps Oregon companies take advantage of non-dilutive federal funding. The program includes application support grants to help companies prepare better applications that are more likely to be funded, as well as matching grants to fill gaps where the federal funds cannot be used. The Matching Grant provides funding to help businesses build on projects and advance technologies developed using federal SBIR/STTR funds to help companies reach their next stage of growth.With the Application Support Grants and the Matching Grants recently opened, learn how these programs can help Oregon companies to leverage and expand nondilutive capital.

Prior to Business Oregon, she created and supported local and statewide industry-led partnerships focused on workforce development. Jordana has over 20 years of experience in developing and implementing programs that support businesses, innovators, and communities. She has a Bachelor’s Degree from Wake Forest University and a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan.
