Join us VIRTUALLY on June 4th for the next session of the Philadelphia Education Fund (PEF's) monthly speaker series, Education First Compact:

Futures Thinking for Educational Leaders:
An Introduction to Scenario Planning During and After the Crisis

It’s been nearly two months since our schools closed down. And, we’ve been forced to adapt. While it’s been difficult, it has challenged us to examine our traditional understanding of a school-based K-12 education. What does it mean to teach students through a screen? How might students build community, when there are no opportunities for informal, unscheduled interactions?

How do we organize ourselves to envision a new future for schools, and shift from a mainly reactive mode to a mainly proactive one? This is a Big Question – and a fascinating one indeed – that we will explore together in this Education First Compact session.

Co-presenters and panelists, Homa Tavangar and Will Richardson of the Big Questions Institute, will introduce some of the basic concepts of “futures thinking” that education leaders can apply, consider what’s sacred to our schools that we want to keep in 2020 and beyond, and teach the basic steps for scenario planning that can be applied to a range of uncertainties.

How might these mental models, coupled with radical imagination and out-of-the-box thinking, help us as educational leaders to act with more strategic foresight? As always in Education First Compact, Farah Jimenez will moderate a panel discussion that will be open to your questions and comments!
