More than two-thirds of the zoo’s operating budget is provided by revenue from its food service, retail shops, parking, and fund-raising activities. The remaining portion is provided by a fixed annual subsidy from the Chicago Park District.LeadershipLincoln Park Zoo is ambitious—a direct reflection of our executive staff and the passion they bring to the zoo each and every day. Their talents lead to the conservation of animals around the world, the cataloguing of critically endangered plants at the zoo, the development of learning programs throughout Chicago, and the creation of animal-care techniques that benefit individuals across the globe. The zoo also relies on its Board of Trustees for leadership and guidance. Providing insights on financial and operational matters, they are primarily responsible for the fiscal health of the zoo. The Women’s Board and Auxiliary Board provide supportive funds through extensive fundraising efforts, such as Zoo Ball, and public service initiatives, such as Spooky Zoo.Reservation and Ticket PoliciesCapacityLincoln Park Zoo reserves the right to increase or reduce the number of reservations available on any given date/time based on visitor data, operational capacity, and/or City and State guidelines.RefundsAll events at Lincoln Park Zoo are non-refundable.Weather/EmergenciesLincoln Park Zoo and associated events are rain or shine. In the case of severe weather or unexpeced emergencies, we will do all we can to notify guests in advance of specific cancellations .Photography and Filming NoticeDuring your virtual and in-person visit to Lincoln Park Zoo, you may be recorded or photographed by or on behalf of Lincoln Park Zoo. Your purchase/entry to this program serves as permission for use of your image by Lincoln Park Zoo.Lincoln Park Zoo regularly uses this media to review our practices as well as safeguard our participants should any unwanted behavior arise. At times recordings/photographs are requested by the media for promotional consideration as well. Lincoln Park Zoo may also share the recorded video or photographs after the program, for future promotional efforts.If you do not want your likeness or name recorded at virtual events, please ensure your camera is turned off and the alias associated with your account is updated.Lincoln Park Zoo will do everything possible to communicate media schedules in advance as well as clarify recording status to all guests participating in both virtual and in-person events.

BioBlitz with Lincoln Park Zoo! How many species can you identify in one weekend?
A free OUTDOORS &amp; ONLINE event in a nature space near you!

The purpose of a bioblitz is to get an overall count of the plants, animals, fungi, and other living things that make their home in a certain area. And in this case, Chicago and the surrounding areas!Bio is a Greek word for life, and blitz is German for lightning. How many species do you think you can identify in one weekend?!?Participants - individuals, families, or a group of friends - will receive training via Zoom with Lincoln Park Zoo staff from the Urban Wildlife Institute, Horticulture and Learning teams to investigate plants and animals in your own neighborhood. The BioBlitz schedule:<ul><li>Friday, October 8, 6-7pm: Kickoff and Introduction to iNaturalist (on Zoom)</li></ul><ul><li>October 8-10: Independent data collection in a safe green space near you (using iNaturalist). There are in-person bird walks and plant identification events at Lincoln Park Zoo on October 9th- please join us to learn about the natural biodiversity at Nature Boardwalk! </li></ul><ul><li>Tuesday, October 12, 6-7pm: Celebration and Wrap-Up (on Zoom)</li></ul>BioBlitz trainings will occur on <a href="https://zoom.us/join" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zoom</a>, and we will use the free app <a href="https://www.inaturalist.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">iNaturalist</a> to collect data. Remember to dress for the weather when collecting data outside and to wear a mask and maintain social distance. There is no cost to participate.<h3>Frequently asked questions: </h3>What do I need to participate? A device with an internet connection, Zoom software with the latest update, a device with iNaturalist app, and a sense of adventure!I have never used iNaturalist before. Will you teach me? Yes! Our Kickoff session will include a walkthrough of how to use iNaturalist to collect citizen science data. Does this event take place at the zoo? No. Zoo staff will be streaming live, and you should plan to participate from your own home and collect data in a nature space near you. What if I can't attend both Zoom sessions? You are still welcome to register and participate! Our iNaturalist project will show observations collected by all participants, so you will still be able to view our BioBlitz results even if you miss a Zoom session.
