The New York Public Libraryis a free provider of education and information for the people of New York and beyond. The New York Public Library

Times are tough in 2017. Village Round Tables are here to connect members of the Greenwich Village Community in conversation around hot-button topics in our neighborhood.  Here's how it will work: a local expert will provide a 10 minute "conversation starter" on an important historical, political, cultural, or personal topic, and then join a moderated discussion on that topic with all the participants in the room.  Here’s your chance to make your voice heard!
<H2>Schedule of Events:</H2>
1:30pm - James and Karla Murray are husband-and-wife professional photographers, and the authors of Store Front and other critically acclaimed books. James and Karla will discuss their work documenting streetscapes and stories through photographing mom and pop shops and their owners, with a particular focus on the importance of small businesses to the culture, texture, and spirit of individual neighborhoods.
2:45pm - Eric Anthamatten received his Ph.D. in philosophy from The New School for Social Research, and has worked teaching philosophy in prisons in Texas, New York City, and Connecticut. He currently teaches at Fordham University and The New School.  He will lead a discussion on the breakdown of civic and political discourse in the Trump era that asks questions like: what happens when discourse, dialogue, and communication become increasingly difficult to sustain, much less even begin? What happens when the major strategy of "politics" becomes to undo the very possibility of politics?
4:00pm - Lisa E. Davis is a Greenwich Village-based scholar, historian, and author. She has previously taught Hispanic Languages and Literature at SUNY Stony Brook and York College CUNY.  Her presentation will focus on the radical female  activists of Greenwich Village in the first half of the 20th century, and the hope and inspiration such figures provide us in the present day.
All conversations will be held in the Willa Cather Community Room on the first floor.
