    Description:

This workshop will provide an ethical framework for counselors to increase their knowledge in working with LGBTQ clients. Counselors will learn about the ACA, NASW, and AAMFT’s Code of Ethics as well as COMAR specific to LGBTQ issues. Participants will also learn practical skills to work effectively with LGBTQ clients by using affirmative therapy, inclusive language, and awareness of the needs specific to the LGBTQ community. We will use activities to apply ethical codes to various case studies. We will look at the complexity of spirituality and religion for LGBTQ clients and our own biases related to counselors’ belief systems. Overall, this workshop is designed to promote dialogue between counselors and assist in proficiency with a diverse high-risk population.
