Every Vibeyard Trio show is special, but on this occasion we’ll be celebrating the 50th birthday of a living legend – Pancho Tomaselli! This bassist extraordinaire is 1/3 of this spectacular local sensation. We’re honored that this man who has toured the world and played with several Hall of Fame bands wants to spend this milestone birthday here with us. Not only is he one of the best bassists we know, he also happens to be one of the coolest people ever!
Vibeyard Trio is grease-tastic mix of funk, soul, reggae, jazz and improvised eclectica. Pancho and Guitarist/Vocalist JB Eckl have come up together through the funk, rock and Latin scenes of So. Cal. Their touring and producing credits include War, Santana, Tower of Power, George Lynch, Angelo Moore, Ozomatli, Buena Vista Social Club and many many others. The not-so-secret weapon of the trio is Tim Bulkley on drums. His dazzling approach is the stylistic equivalent of riding the nose of a longboard on a perfectly cresting, four-footer at Cape St. Francis with no one out. Rich in subtleties, spacious grooves and deep pockets, Tim is an octopus magician.
Having a group of instrumental ninjas counts for a lot. Factor in Eckl’s sublime vocal talent matched with his buttery guitar tone allows the band the freedom to explore a treasure trove of soulful classics and rarities. Every cover song they do, from Bob Marley to Curtis Mayfield and even Frank Sinatra, is completely reinvented in such a creative way. Since the last time they were here they've written new original music and it’s quite possible they’ll even craft their next song before our very eyes! For the special occasion, Vibeyard Trio will be augmented by a horn section so we can expect the music to ascend to unforeseen heights!
