In recognition of the 25th anniversary of Vector Encounter, the JHMRI will waive the registration fees for those who attend and the Thursday night dinner fee for the first 50 who register. The Vector Encounter is a two-day gathering to discuss the biology of disease vectors, hosted by the Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. During this engaging get-together, investigators present their lab's latest vector research on a chalk board, rather than on PowerPoint slides. Presentations are limited to one investigator per laboratory, by the PI if at all possible or by a senior member otherwise. During a breakout session on Thursday afternoon, there will be an opportunity for non-PIs to present their research in small group formations; see details below. This will be the 25th Vector Encounter.

Pre-Registration Required: We provide two light breakfasts and two lunches for both days. The registration deadline is June 2, 2022.

Dinner (optional): We have reached our 50-person limit for the Thursday evening invitation to attend a crab dinner at Captain James Landing restaurant. The crab meal can be substituted for meat lasagna or pasta primavera during online registration. The Malaria Research Institute will cover Thursday's dinner. Be sure to indicate in your registration if you plan to attend the dinner. We do need a firm headcount for the restaurants by June 2, 2022. Please contact us in case there are cancellations.

Name badge & directory: Ensure you accurately type your name and affiliation for printed name badges as well as your work addresses for the participant directory.

Small Group Formations (Breakout Session)In view of the positive response of last year, we will repeat the small group presentations this year. The format will be as follows. Non-PIs (i.e., students, postdocs) will prepare and bring along with them a summary of their projects to be presented in approximately 10 minutes (no more than 8 slides). This presentation can be on a laptop, on a tablet or as a hard copy (paper). After the last chalk talk on Thursday afternoon (about 3:30 PM), we will form small groups of about 4 presenters plus one or two PIs who will act as moderators. The presenters will take turns in introducing their project and may be interrupted with questions. We encourage the presenters to include their immediate future research plans in order to get feedback from the group. Please note that this year non-presenters will NOT be admitted to the groups. For those who choose not to present, there will be discussion groups on subjects to be determined, that will meet at the same time as the small groups.
