An interactive worldbuilding workshop with a focus on optimistic, utopian futures.

What is utopia? How do we build utopian words and write utopian stories that are believable? Can we create compelling conflict and tension in idealistic, utopian stories? How do we build future utopias that are more innovative and creative than simply idealized version of the current socio-economic system?In this dynamic, three hour online worldbuilding workshop, we will:<ol><li>learn the various elements of worldbuilding and utopia, and how to bring them together. </li><li>look at two short stories as examples of different styles of utopian worldbuilding. </li><li>engage in interactive worldbuilding exercises throughout the workshop.</li></ol>The focus will be on building utopian worlds, but the general lessons apply to any worldbuilding. All materials and readings are provided. All registrants will get a video recording of the session by the next day.<h3>About the Facilitator</h3>Justine Norton-Kertson (they/he/she) is a former high school teacher turned community organizer. They are also a writer, musician, photographer, and editor-in-chief for <a href="https://www.android-press.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Android Press </a>and <a href="https://solarpunkmagazine.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Solarpunk Magazine</a>.
