Biographies: Geri Word, Director, Office of North America, U.S. Department of CommerceGeri Word is responsible for overseeing programs, policies and strategies designed to strengthen the U.S. commercial relationship with Mexico and Canada. She oversees market access and commercial issues in her area of responsibility and has oversight for the North American Free Trade Agreement. Ms. Word’s office was the Department’s lead for the U.M.-Mexico-Canada Free Trade Agreement (USMCA) negotiations, as well as current outreach efforts related to educating the business community on the benefits of the Agreement. She has been involved in several international and bilateral negotiations, including the U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement, Free Trade Area of the Americas, and the U.S. - Panama Free Trade Agreement. Ms. Word has coordinated Presidential initiatives designed to enhance economic competitiveness and security in North America, as well as bilateral initiatives in the areas of regulatory cooperation and border management with respect to Mexico and Canada. She also directed the Office of Central America and the Caribbean during her tenure at the Department of Commerce. Prior to joining the Department of Commerce, Ms. Word worked as a civilian for the Department of Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, United States Forces Azores, Office of Political Affairs, in the Azores, Portugal. The office was primarily responsible for performing political-military liaison functions between the United States and Portugal. David M. Glaccum, Associate Administrator, Office of International Trade at the U.S. Small Business AdministrationDavid M. Glaccum is the Associate Administrator for the Office of International Trade at the U.S. Small Business Administration. The mission of the Office of International Trade is to help small businesses find new markets and sell to a global customer base. Glaccum and his team accomplish this by executing SBA’s work on federal and state trade development, international trade finance, and international affairs and trade policy. Additionally, this is accomplished through the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) Grant which helps Utah small businesses enter and expand into dynamic global markets. STEP is funded in part through a Grant with the U.S. Small Business Administration.Glaccum brings a variety of experience in federal and state government to the position. He previously served as Chief of Staff and Counselor to U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, where he provided executive level planning, leadership, and directional support to the U.S. Mission staff, and developed strategic initiatives to drive forward U.S. foreign policy interests at the United Nations, including the negotiation and adoption of North Korea sanctions, and the systematic reform of peacekeeping missions resulting in nearly $900 million in savings to the United Nations peacekeeping budget.While working as then Governor Haley’s Deputy Chief of Staff and Policy Advisor he oversaw the development of the Governor’s annual Executive Budget, and successfully led state-wide initiatives to improve South Carolina’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and worked to ensure proper disaster response and recovery financing and allocation of state resources following Hurricane Matthew in October 2016.Prior to his time with Haley, Glaccum served as Chief Counsel to South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham where he led the drafting and negotiations on a wide array of complex policy initiatives ranging from criminal and civil justice reform to counter-terrorism enforcement.Glaccum earned a bachelor’s degree in Culinary Management from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and a juris doctor degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
