Program Content
In this training, we will discuss what to expect when providing therapy to young clients. We will review the purpose of play in the therapeutic setting; the benefits and barriers; as well as common concerns, questions, and biases about play. Training will also provide resources and conversations about how to document certain situations that may occur during a session with youth as well as how we might explain therapeutic techniques to a caregiver or school staff member.
Course Objectives
- Gain a better understanding of therapy with children;
- Gain a better understanding of benefits and barriers of play in the therapy room;
- Identify role of the therapist when working with youth;
- Have a better sense of how to explain therapy to a caregiver/school staff member and how to document therapy techniques in a SOAP note.
Presenters
Angie Kuffel is a licensed professional counselor in the State of Wisconsin and the Intern and Clinical Supervisor for Professional Services Group, Inc. She received her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and Counseling Education from the University of Colorado- Denver. As a previous teacher, Angie has since sought out opportunities to find effective, creative ways to continue to support children and adolescents (and their caregivers and teachers) through School Based Individual Therapy.
Angela Langenfeld is a Licensed Professional Counselor through the state of Wisconsin with a Specialty to Treat Substance Use Disorders. Angela completed her Master of Science in Community Counseling at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Angela is an Internal Family Systems (IFS) Informed therapist who has also trained in the Comprehensive Resource Model of treatment. Angela currently provides trauma responsive clinical supervision and therapy through Professional Services Group. Angela strives to cultivate and inspire a strengths based, trauma informed, and culturally responsive lens to case conceptualization.
Professional Services Group has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7066. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Professional Services Group is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
