Using Energy Psychology Techniques to Regulate and Intervene with Youth and Families

This workshop is free & open to those who work with children in the foster care system in Alameda County. Mental health professionals (LCSWs, LMFTs, LEPs, LPCCs and others) in the field are welcome.

Part 1: Friday, October 13, 2023 9:00am-12:15pm

Nervous System Regulation for Providers and Their Client with Energy Medicine and Energy Psychology Friday

Training Description: Learn how stress and trauma impacts the nervous system and how to use techniques from energy medicine and energy psychology to regulate yourself and your clients

Course Objectives: By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

- Articulate how the nervous system responds to trauma;
- Name the part of the brain that is activated by threatening situations;
- Use and teach three methods to regulate your own and other’s nervous system in times of stress or upset.

Part 2: Thursday, November 9, 2023 1:30pm – 4:45pm

Using Energy Medicine to Regulate those with Developmental Trauma

Training Description: Learn to identify impact of developmental trauma on nervous system regulation and how to regulate the nervous system of those who have experience early trauma and lack of care giver attunement. (Required prerequisite - #1 of series.)

Course Objectives: By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

- Differentiate two differences between developmental trauma and shock trauma;
- Identify 4 signs and symptoms of developmental or complex trauma;
- Learn and practice application of at least three energy medicine techniques based on the complex trauma symptom the youth is experiencing/displaying.

Part 3: Friday, December 1, 2023 9:00am-12:15pm

Energy Psychology – Basic EFT

Training Description: Learn basic Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), AKA, tapping, to use with self and clients to address distress and upsets. (Required prerequisite - #1 of series, #2 is highly recommended.)

Course Objectives: By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

- Describe the location of the 7 acupressure points used in EFT;
- Identify how to determine when a client is ready to use EFT;
- Utilize the 6 step protocol for facilitating and EFT session.

Part 4: RESCHEDULED Friday, February 9 2024 9:00am-12:15pm

How to Address Trauma with EFT

Training Description: Learn to use EFT with those who have experienced shock (single incident) trauma or developmental/complex trauma. (Required prerequisite - #1, 2, 3 of series.)

Course Objectives: By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

- Assess and address when an individual is ready to address symptoms of trauma;
- Demonstrate two skills that will help individuals regulate their nervous system when re-stimulated by past trauma.
- Utilize the 5 step process for address symptoms of trauma with EFT.

The Trainer Rachel Michaelsen, LCSW, is a clinical social worker who has worked in HMOs, public agencies, and private practice as both a mental-health provider and a supervisor for over thirty years. She has taught courses in diagnoses, clinical supervision, law and ethics, childhood psychopathology, time management, boundaries, vicarious traumatization, trauma informed care, and energy psychology at universities, conferences, and mental-health agencies. She has a private psychotherapy practice, which has been exclusively been online since 2020 and is also the recent past chair of the Humanitarian Committee for the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology.

CE Credit This training meets the qualifications for 14 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. A 15 minute break and 30 minute lunch is not included in the total CEU time awarded. We will be unable to provide attendees with certificates of completion if more than 15 minutes of course content is missed. CE credit will be awarded via email within 4-6 weeks after training. Family Paths, Inc. is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LEPs, and LPCCs. Family Paths, Inc. maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content. Please note no CE credits will be given to participants who arrive 30 minutes late without advanced warning; please email trainings@familypaths.org if you will be late.

Cancellation Policy We do not charge for our trainings at present and space is limited. If you cannot attend we ask that you contact us as soon as possible in order to open up that seat to someone else. If training is cancelled, participants are notified via email no later than one week prior to the training if possible. If a trainer has an emergency and notifies the training department in less than week, those registered for the training are notified as soon as possible. Training registrants are provided the makeup date that is scheduled for the training.

Training Grievance Policy Family Paths is committed to providing a work/learning environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. A participant of trainings has the right to seek a remedy for a dispute or disagreement through Family Path’s policies for filing complaints/grievances for participants. Training participants may use available informal means to have decisions reconsidered before filing a formal complaint/grievance. No retaliation of any kind shall be taken against a participant for filing a complaint/grievance. In an effort to provide the highest quality services to participants in our trainings, you are encouraged to report immediately any concerns regarding your training experience to the Clinical Training Coordinator who will provide the complaint form. Once a complaint or grievance has been submitted, you can expect a response no later than ten (10) business days. If no resolution is forthcoming, or the problem is not satisfactorily resolved, the participant may direct any complaint/grievance to the Program Administrator, Family Paths’ Clinical Director.
