That is useful, but it can also be dangerous in Lean and Continuous Improvement work.In this session, we will continue our work on how AI can support Lean thinking, supplementing the knowledge, leadership, and experience of the Continuous Improvement practitioner.We will use a fictionalized late-delivery problem from a custom manufacturing environment and demonstrate how an AI assistant can help a CI practitioner work through the early stages of an A3, including:<ul><li>clarifying the real problem condition,</li><li>checking data and assumptions,</li><li>identifying missing Gemba evidence,</li><li>separating facts from opinions,</li><li>stratifying a broad problem into meaningful groups,</li><li>developing candidate root causes,</li><li>testing cause → mechanism → effect logic,</li><li>and deciding whether the root-cause thinking is strong enough to move toward countermeasures.</li></ul>The goal is not to have AI “solve” the problem.AI does not replace the Gemba. AI does not own the problem. AI does not make the decision. AI does not approve the root cause.The CI practitioner remains responsible for judgment, verification, stakeholder engagement, decision-making, and follow-through.Used correctly, AI can act as a disciplined thinking partner. It can help practitioners ask better questions, see gaps in their thinking, challenge weak assumptions, organize evidence, and avoid jumping too quickly from symptom to root cause to countermeasure.We will also discuss a possible new direction for WVLN: developing practical Lean + AI tools that members can use inside their own ChatGPT accounts to support real improvement work. The idea is simple: WVLN maintains the Lean method and guardrails; the practitioner brings the real problem, the facts, the Gemba learning, and the judgment.The future will not reward people who simply use AI. It will reward people who use AI with judgment.
