User Interface & Visual Design

Want to elevate your visual design skills and create attractive UI designs? Learn foundational design principles and build a visually attractive portfolio project.

First impressions matter. Under the umbrella of UX, visual design is the most immediate and tangible. A beautiful interface builds trust, elevates brand perception, and sets the tone for a quality experience. And a well-organized UI invites interaction, reduces confusion, and increases engagement. Through this course, you’ll:

  • Go beyond wireframes to create compelling, visually-designed interfaces.

  • Learn to see the subtle differences between a good UI and a great UI.

  • Learn visual design principles and how to apply them in designing app interfaces.

  • Get hands-on, UI design practice by creating a variety of layouts and styles.

What You’ll Learn

You’ll learn how to make an interface look high quality, professional, and on brand, while also being usable and intuitive. We’ll cover foundational principles of grid-based design, typography, color, affordance, and style applied specifically towards designing for mobile and desktop interfaces.

Our class sizes max out at 12 ensuring each student gets quailty instructor time and adequate design feedback to produce excellent work.

What You’ll Take Away

Students will leave this foundations class with a portfolio project demonstrating essential UI design concepts and skills, as well as smart practices for handing off UI design to developers, presenting their work, giving meaningful critique, and many more valuable skills for designing interfaces as part of a professional, tech product team. You'll design the interface for a series of mobile screens.
