Description

2016 marks the 25th years of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence - An international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls around the world. The campaign runs every year from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day. The international campaign originated from the first Women's Global Leadership Institute coordinated by the Center for Women's Global Leadership in 1991.

3,700 organizations from 164 countries participate in the campaign each year. The goal of the campaign is to focus on one particular area of gender inequality and bring attention to the issues with an aim to bring change and have an impact.

This year, Sayfty in partnership with the UN Women & UN IANYD WG is organizing an event for youth to better understand how they can leverage technology (or discuss the lack of safe solutions) to keep themselves safe from violence (both online and offline). During the half day event, speakers and the youth will discuss and reflect on the critical role of technology to keep themselves safe from violence, both on and offline.

Expected Speakers include:

Ms. Lakshmi Puri: Deputy Executive Director, UN Women
Sree Sreenivasan: Chief Digital Officer, NYC
Nancy Schwartzman: Founder, Circle of 6 app / CEO Tech 4 Good
John Farmer: Director of Technology & Civic Innovation, Microsoft
Ravi Karkara: UN Women
Shruti Kapoor: Founder, Sayfty
