Urge Massachusetts Legislature to Raise the School Dropout Age
As a concerned citizen of Boston, MA, I am deeply troubled by the current law in Massachusetts that allows students to leave school at age 16. This early dropout age is detrimental to our youth's long-term prospects and undermines our collective commitment to quality education for all. Education is a fundamental right and an essential tool for future success. However, when students drop out of school at such an early age, they are deprived of critical learning opportunities and face significant challenges later. According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), high school dropouts are more likely than those who graduate high school to be unemployed and earn less when they find work.
