Published a decade ago, the Greater New Orleans Urban Water Plan positioned the region to catalyze a thriving economy and quality of life, centered around water resources. The Urban Water Series, launched the same year by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, enhanced the region’s capacity to execute the plan.
A decade later, Greater New Orleans, Inc., Greater New Orleans Foundation, and the Tulane ByWater Institute organized Urban Water @ 10 to activate regional stakeholders and develop recommendations to inform and advance the next decade of Urban Water Plan implementation. The three administering organizations partnered with the City of New Orleans Office of Resilience and Sustainability, Waggonner & Ball Architects, LUMCOM, and UNO Planning & Urban Studies Department to execute the program.
Urban Water @ 10 participants first engaged in five sector-based roundtables, which identified emergent themes in sector-specific settings. Participants then built upon these discussions during the Urban Water @ 10 Summit with the opportunity to co-develop solutions to prevalent topics and provide direct input on the final deliverables of the Urban Water @ 10 program.
Based on all feedback collected, Waggonner & Ball and the administering organizations are developing the program’s artifact: a report that details sector-wide lessons learned over the past decade and provides ten recommendations for implementation throughout the next decade. Lessons and recommendations were directly informed by stakeholder input. Access to the final deliverable will be available after the finale at gnowater.org.
