About this event

  • Event lasts 4 hours

We are excited to invite you to join our first-time collaboration with the Mount Dora Art League, the Creative Hub of Apopka, and the Howey Mansion, for a creative drawing and painting art day in celebration of the 100th Howey-In-The-Hills Founder's Day.

The Howey mansion, a Mediterranean Revival-style architecture gem, was abandoned for approximately a decade and has been recently painstakingly restored to its magnificent historic grandeur and charm—a beautiful subject matter to sketch outdoors and in!
Artists of all media are invited to create in this inspiring outdoor setting, and so are we, Urban sketchers! Please join us.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced urban sketcher artist, we welcome all!

No previous sketching experience necessary!

EVENT TIMING: Saturday, May 3, 2025 | 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
EVENT ADDRESS: 1001 Citrus Ave, Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida

Entry to the Festival grounds is free.

Early Registration is recommended.

As you prepare for a warm, sunny day, be sure to bring your art supplies, a folding stool, and essentials such as sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and a water bottle.

Unlike other en plein air artists with designated easel spots, Sketch-reportage artists are welcome to position themselves around the lawn, where you can find unique viewpoints to inspire your art, to capture the community festivity vibes, and the architectural charm in your sketchbooks.

Additionally, you can opt to take a self-guided tour of the mansion's interior. The tour is available for $10 and can be paid on the day of the event. * (We are working with the organizers to waive this indoor entry fee for urban sketchers and allow us to use a sketchbook and pen instead of a camera to document the mansion indoors in a sketch-reportage style.)

We will follow up before the event via email as a reminder and for any last-minute suggestions. We look forward to a day filled with inspiration and creativity!

Feel free to share this event with friends, sketchers, or those who wish to try drawing in a sketchbook on location. We look forward to sketching with you and hope you can make it!
