About this event

The Music Department is excited to partner with Urban Movement Arts to bring a series of dance classes to the Free Library! Classes will be offered during evenings on the second Wednesday of the month throughout April, May, and June. This event will take place in the Skyline Room, on the 4th floor of the Parkway Central Library.

Our second class is Solo Salsa. Embark on a captivating journey of self-expression and rhythm with our solo salsa dance class! Whether you're a seasoned dancer or taking your very first steps, our classes offer a welcoming and dynamic space to explore the vibrant world of salsa.

During this class, students will learn foundational salsa steps and techniques; explore body isolations, turns, and footwork patterns; develop a deeper connection to the music and rhythm of salsa; and discover the joy of expressing yourself through dance.

No partner is required – just come as you are and let the music guide you. Whether you're dancing for fitness, stress relief, or pure enjoyment, our classes offer something for everyone.

This class is open to dancers at All Levels. Please bring your own water bottle!

About the instructor: Laurel Card (she/her), owner and Director of Laurel Card Latin Dance is a seasoned dance instructor in Philadelphia's Center City. Laurel brings over two decades of expertise to the dance floor, specializing in Salsa, Bachata, Reggaeton, and her uniquely crafted Latin House classes. Certified as a professional dance teacher by DVIDA – Dance Vision International Dancers Association, Laurel's commitment to excellence is recognized by the National Dance Council of America.

Laurel's partnering classes in Salsa and Bachata are carefully designed to create a dynamic and comfortable atmosphere for social dancing, fostering confidence and mastery among students. Whether leading the fast-paced Latin House sessions or guiding solo classes with emphasis on choreography and technique, Laurel ensures inclusivity, welcoming enthusiasts of all levels, including beginners. Recognizing the importance of personalized guidance, Laurel offers private lessons that result in enduring dance partnerships spanning over five years or more.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get to the Skyline Room?

The Skyline Room is on the 4th floor of Parkway Central Library! To get there, find the golden elevators to the right hand side of the lobby. Take them to the 4th floor. The Skyline Room will be immediately ahead of the elevators when you arrive. Look for a red library table and follow the music!

Will there be water?

Unfortunately, we are not able to supply water bottles at this time. There are no water fountains on the 4th floor. Please bring your own water bottles, or return to the 1st floor to use the water fountain.

Are there bathrooms?

There are gendered bathrooms in the Skyline Room. If you need a gender-neutral bathroom, they are located on the 1st or Ground floors.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing and shoes that are easy to move around in!

I really like this instructor! Will they be coming back?

Not at this time! This is the first time the library is hosting dance class programs, so we wanted to offer a variety.
