The Urban Landscapes in Watercolor class series is a comprehensive guide to sketching and painting what you see.

Session I - Saturday, June 29th (11AM-1PM)

Urban Landscapes in Watercolor is a one-day, 2-hour workshop that introduces students to essential watercolor techniques through the practice of sketching a city or street scene outdoors. This workshop introduces participants to the many sketching opportunities that cityscapes can offer along with encouraging the enjoyment of watercolor. Through instructor demonstrations, small group, and one-on-one instruction, guests will:


  • Learn 4 essential watercolor techniques (e.g., flat wash, graded wash, wet-on-wet, and dry-brush)
  • Learn about basic color mixing
  • Learn how to choose a subject
  • Learn basic linear and aerial perspective
  • Learn how to start an outdoor sketch


Session 2 - Saturday, July 13th (11AM-1PM)

Learn Light and Shadow

Learn Light and Shadow builds on skills and techniques first introduced in the in Urban Landscapes in Watercolor. This workshop is a one-day, 2-hour workshop that allows students to continue to practice previously introduced essential watercolor techniques and adds another important element to achieve believable watercolors–atmospheric perspective. Students will explore how to capture light and shadow by building up a painting through the use of color, value, and expressive brushstrokes.


Session 3 - Saturday, July 27th (11AM-1PM)

Learn Perspective

Learn Perspective is a workshop is for beginners who want to learn the basics of perspective by sketching buildings in watercolor. Your instructor will teach you the basic watercolor techniques you need to know, such as flat washes, graded washes, wet-on-wet, and dry brush. You will also learn about basic color mixing and linear and aerial perspective. By the end of the workshop, you will be able to create your own beautiful watercolor sketches of buildings. (Note: Light walking is involved; please let us know if you need accommodations.)

Students are asked to bring a container of water for painting/cleaning brushes, a portable stool/folding chair, and to wear comfortable clothes they don't mind getting paint on.

All attendees will recieve 10% off art supplies on the day of the class.
