Urban De-Code - LA
"De-Code" transformative projects alongside the visionaries behind them. How can zoning, transit, & walkability shape communities?
Welcome to some of the breakthrough projects of Los Angeles, CA for an exciting event - Urban De-Code - LA! Join us for a weekend filled with interactive workshops, engaging discussions, and hands-on activities.
On Saturday, discover the catalytic power of connection with the Emerging New Urbanists at the Evermont in South LA - a Coalition for Responsible Community Development Housing Site with 118 affordable family units and 62 supportive senior units. Hear from the designers of the project about how this Transit-Oriented Design came to be and what concessions the developer made to create a more welcoming building for the neighborhood.
Hear from the LA Planning Department and Code Studio about LA's new Zoning Code and learn about the innovative new strategies employed for the different neighborhoods in LA. Explore the new code in an interactive Workshop to fully absorb the impact of the new code features. Walk through 7th Street in Downtown LA to explore some of the most beautiful buildings and public spaces in the area.
On Sunday, visit Platform, a seminal project in Culver City's urban revival. Continue walking along the right-of-way improvements heading into downtown Culver City, discussing the popular pedestrian experience and transit improvements, both the benefits and the drawbacks.
This unique two-day Urban De-Code will immerse you in the principles of New Urbanism, exploring a space where walkability, sustainability, and community design converge.
