Updraft America Reception

Washington, DC, sculptor (and former Senate aide) Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg manifests Americans’ frustration with our gridlocked partisan politics by taking an entire year of the official proceedings of the United States Congress, asdocumented in theCongressional Record, and folding each page into a paper airplane. From this mass of 10,718 airplanes, striped red or blue to connote the political divide, the uppermost planes rise into the air, as if taking flight, and as they do, their hues combine to become purple - the color of reason in politics.

Join journalist and author Cokie Roberts, American University faculty member and former creator and anchor of ‘Washington Business Report,’ Rebecca Cooper, along with fellow media representatives, and members of the Bridge Alliance as they introduce ideas for moving America forward during this panel discussion.
