About this event

  • 1 hour

This workshop will look at seeds, providing a basic overview of how they grow before focusing on saving seed at the end of the growing season and the best ways to collect, clean, store and label it. Seeds are the basis of all growing, and even experienced growers can benefit from a refresher on the lifecycle of seeds and how to provide the best possible conditions for them to grow. It’s important to collect seed before the plant naturally disperses it, but also to leave some for this process to still occur, and to choose vigorous and healthy plants to collect from. This workshop will take place towards the end of the summer, when plants are beginning to set seed, and we will gather seed from the allotment, clean it, and learn how to make seed envelopes to properly label and store it in preparation for next year.

There will also be an opportunity for people to swap seeds with each other, and to learn about organisations such as the Seed Saving Network that encourage seed saving and the preservation of heritage varietals.
