Through the literary and performing arts, Southern Word offers creative solutions for youth to build literacy and presentation skills, reconnect to their education and lives, and act as leaders in the improvement of their communities. Southern Word primarily engages youth with spoken word, also known as performance poetry, a proven literacy tool that positively impacts youth identity, engagement, and communication. Southern Word conducts writing and music production residencies, workshops, and performances during and after school, on college campuses, and through other community partnership programs. Spoken word pedagogies embrace a holistic approach which speaks to a wide range of English Language Arts standards and addresses recurring challenges faced by educational systems.

Trimble House

<h3><strong>UnTabled</strong>, presented by Southern Word and Avvay, delivers an evening of networking, conversation, and performance at Trimble House,  one of Nashville’s top creative spaces for projects and events. </h3><h3>The evening will bring together 75 to 100 of Nashville’s established and emerging business leaders, entrepreneurs, executives, and change makers in an intimate setting where they can connect with each other and learn about ways to support Southern Word’s placement of mentors inside classrooms and community organizations. </h3><h3>Guests will have the opportunity to explore Trimble House, enjoy complimentary drinks and appetizers, and engage with Tennessee thought leaders on connecting creativity in the workplace. The evening will conclude with a signature performance by Southern Word’s artists designed for Nashville’s business community.</h3>
