The Clark County Public Arts Office and Commissioner McCurdy II proudly partners with South LA-based artist Mike Norice and Las Vegas film team Arecibo Films, led by Zachary Fried, on the Pearson Pillar Mural Project—a 21-pillar series at Pearson Community Center in Las Vegas' Historic Westside. Each 10-foot-tall mural pillar honors local Black history, resilience, and culture.
Extensive community engagement and research—including input from residents, workshops, oral histories, and guidance from historian Claytee D. White—shaped the mural’s timeline. It begins in 1870 with landowner John Howell, and includes icons like Ruby Duncan, Hattie Canty, Paul Revere Williams, and William “Doc” Pearson, culminating in a tribute to the area’s growing Hispanic/Latinx community.
