Unlocking the Scale and Impact of Satellites to Detect and Quantify Methane
Discover how decision-makers can navigate the growing ecosystem of credible, actionable, and open methane data to catalyze climate action.
Unlocking the Scale and Impact of Satellites to Detect and Quantify Methane
Join co-hosts the Climate Champions Team, Carbon Mapper, and RMI for an exciting in-person event during ClimateWeek NYC at One World Trade Center in New York!
During a 60-minute panel and Q&A session, you'll hear experts explore how remote sensing technologies have transformed how we can accurately measure, report, and verify methane emissions, and how this data can empower decision-makers to mitigate this potent greenhouse gas.
A growing number of satellites and other remote sensing technologies are coming online and making more emissions data publicly available — enabling us to see sources of methane that previously went undetected, as well as giving us a more accurate picture of the sources we were already aware of. Companies, governments, and civil society looking to cut methane stand to benefit from increased data access and availability in new and exciting ways. Some are already using it to design more effective policies and programs, or to improve their business practices. Yet gaps remain in our capacity to interpret and use that data effectively at a global scale.
This panel will specifically address ways we can drive data transparency and what is needed to align around standards for measurement, reporting and verification approaches — which are all necessary elements to overcoming barriers to unlocking the full potential of these technologies to underpin concrete and urgent climate action.
Our panelists will include:
- Henrique Bezerra, Oil and Gas Methane Reduction Manager, the Climate Champions Team (moderator)
- Debbie Gordon, Senior Principal at RMI
- Riley Duren, CEO of Carbon Mapper
- Jonathan Banks, Global Director of Methane Pollution Prevention, Clean Air Task Force
- Claire Wang, Senior Advisor to U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry at the U.S. Department of State
- Antoine Halff, Chief Analyst and Co-Founder at Kayrros
- Sarah Smith, Program Director - Energy, Global Methane Hub
Kindly note that space is limited, so we encourage you to secure your spot at your earliest convenience and please let us know if you register but are no longer able to attend.
