Understanding Risk Balkans

In 2011, Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) launched the Open Data for Resilience Initiative (OpenDRI) to apply the concepts of the global open data movement to the challenges of reducing vulnerability to natural hazards and the impacts of climate change. OpenDRI supports World Bank Regional Disaster Risk Management Teams to build capacity and long-term ownership of open data projects with client countries that are tailored to meet specific needs and goals of stakeholders. The Understanding Risk Balkans Conference will provide a unique and innovative forum to share emerging best practices in disaster risk assessment, explore the future of disaster risk and its evolving nature, as well as showcase cutting-edge technologies that can mitigate the physical, social, and financial impacts of disasters. We anticipate a multidisciplinary audience, representing government agencies, regional institutions, the financial and insurance sectors, international organizations, academia, among others. 
 
Day 1 (September 17) will take place at the Belgrade City Hall from 2:30 to 8:00 pm. It will feature the opening ceremony including opening remarks, keynotes and Ignite presentations. Registration opens at 1:00 pm.
 
Days 2 and 3 (September 18 and 19) will take place at the Yugoslav Film Archive Museum from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, where 12 technical sessions will be showcased along with the closing ceremony.
