Understanding Privilege

Understanding Privilege

Overview

Join us for a thoughtful conversation about what privilege really means, how it shows up in all our lives, and how we can use it for good.

Privilege is a word that can make people uncomfortable, but understanding it isn’t about guilt or blame. It’s about recognizing the advantages each of us may have and considering how we can use them to help create a more equitable community.

Join us for a conversation with Diaz Dixon about what privilege really means, the many forms it can take, and why having privilege doesn’t mean you haven’t faced challenges of your own.

We’ll explore how factors such as race, gender, ability, education, income, social connections, and other circumstances can give us advantages in different situations. Most importantly, Diaz will help us move beyond simply recognizing privilege to thinking about what we can do with it.

How can we use our voices when others aren’t being heard? How can we open doors, share opportunities, advocate for others, and use whatever influence we have to make our community stronger?

Come ready for an open, thoughtful conversation about recognizing what we have and putting it to work for good

Our meetings are free, but we do pay a discounted room rental fee. If you’re able, contributing $5–$10 per meeting (cash or Venmo) helps us keep meeting in this wonderful space. Thank you for making it possible!
