Understanding PFAS Training

Founded in 2008, the Marcellus Shale Coalition works with exploration and production, midstream and supply chain partners in the Appalachian Basin and across the country to address issues regarding the production of clean, job-creating, American natural gas from the Marcellus and Utica Shale plays. We provide in-depth information to policymakers, regulators, media and other public stakeholders on the positive effects responsible natural gas production is having on families, businesses, and communities across the region.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of man-made chemicals that includes PFOA, PFOS, GenX, and many other chemicals that all contain fluorine. PFAS have been manufactured and used by a variety of industries for the production of many consumer products around the globe, including the United States since the 1940s. In recent years, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) have promulgated regulations, guidance and new maximum contaminate levels (MCLs) in an attempt to reduce the use of these chemicals and increase environmental cleanup standards.
