This comprehensive training equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to provide culturally competent and inclusive services to Latine communities, fostering positive outcomes and promoting social equity.

Part-one provides participants with essential skills and knowledge to effectively engage with Spanish-Speaking clients and individuals of Latina American descent, commonly referred to as Latines. Participants will learn strategies for building rapport, addressing language barriers, and respecting cultural nuances to provide culturally responsive services. The training will explore communication techniques, cultural values and community resources to enhance understanding and collaboration with Latine clients.

The second part of the training focuses on the intersection of culture with social issues prevalent in Latine communities, including poverty, intimate partner violence, healthcare, and substance use. Participants will examine the cultural dynamics, systemic factors, and community responses to these issues, gaining insights into culturally appropriate interventions and support strategies.

In the final part of the training, participants will explore the importance of using professional interpreters when working with Latine individuals who have limited English proficiency. Presenters Biography

Dr. Cristina Bautista is a highly esteemed therapist, specializing in serving the Latine community with compassion, expertise, and cultural sensitivity. With an impressive educational background, she holds a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Doctorate degree in Psychology. Her commitment to her field is underscored by over 14 years of invaluable experience in providing therapy to children, adolescents, families, and couples.

Throughout her career, Dr. Bautista has been dedicated to addressing a wide range of mental health concerns, with particular expertise in trauma, depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders. Her approach is holistic, integrating evidence-based techniques with cultural competence to ensure the best possible outcomes for her clients.

Dr. Bautista's work is characterized by her deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by the Latinx population. She recognizes the importance of cultural nuances and familial dynamics in the therapeutic process, and she strives to create a safe and inclusive environment where her clients feel understood and supported.

Her impact extends beyond her clinical practice; Dr. Bautista is also actively involved in advocacy efforts aimed at reducing mental health stigma within the Latine community and increasing access to culturally responsive care. She established Spanish for Therapist Institute where she designed classes to teach therapist how to use Spanish terminology and gain cultural awareness for therapist. In addition, she facilitates Study Abroad trainings in Latin America.

She also co-authored a Reference Manual for Mental Health therapist. Recently she created Let’s Talk About Therapy LLC dedicated to helping mental health therapist providing services to make their practices successful. Proceeds will go to a Nonprofit that will build counseling centers in Latin America. In addition, she has a podcast titled Let’s Talk About Therapy where she gives insight of how to be as a successful therapist. Dr. Bautista provides many workshops and lectures throughout the nation about topics relating to mental health and the Latine culture. Through her workshops, lectures, and community outreach initiatives, she seeks to empower individuals and families to prioritize their mental well-being and seek the help they deserve.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Identify the correct terminology with Latine, Latinx, Chicano, and Hispanic and when to use it appropriately when speaking with clients.
2. Identify the assumptions among the Latine Culture and summarize the accurate information regarding the level of Spanish proficiency among Latines.

3. Recognize the implications of poverty within the Latine Culture and summarize the solutions that therapist can implement with Spanish-speaking clients.

4. Recognize the implications of health, health care, and mental health among the Latines community and summarize the techniques therapist can implement with Spanish-speaking clients.

5. Recognize the implications of intimate partner violence among the Latine community and summarize strategies therapist can implement with Spanish-speaking clients

6. Describe the implications of substance use among the Latine community

and summarize the solutions therapist can implement with Spanish-speaking clients.

7. Recognize the value in using an interpreter with Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients.
