"Digging Deeper: Understanding and Improving Your Soil for a Healthier Garden"
Presented by Gabriella de Souza, M.S.
Consumer Horticulture Agent & Extension Master Gardener℠ Program Coordinator

Soil is more than just dirt—it's the foundation of every thriving landscape. In this interactive session, you'll learn how to identify key physical properties of your soil and discover how organic matter can significantly enhance its structure and fertility. We’ll walk through the process of collecting and interpreting soil test samples so you can make informed decisions about fertilization. You’ll also gain the tools to recognize common nutrient deficiencies and excesses, and explore how to responsibly manage fertilizer use to protect our local water quality. Plus, we’ll dig into the fascinating world of soil-dwelling organisms and the vital roles they play in garden health.

Attendees are encouraged to bring soil samples with them to submit after the presentation—we’ll provide guidance on how to take a proper sample and where to send it for testing. This is a great opportunity to take the first step toward understanding and revitalizing your garden from the ground up!
