The first presentation of the CURRENT:LA Public Art Biennial in 2016 is funded by DCA andBloomberg Philanthropiesthrough itsPublic Art Challengeinitiative.About the Bloomberg Public Art ChallengeIn June 2015, Bloomberg Philanthropies selected the City of Los Angeles as one of four cities to receive up to $1 million as part of the Public Art Challenge, a new program aimed at supporting ttemporary public art projects that celebrate creativity, enhance urban identity, encourage public-private partnerships, and drive economic development. Bloomberg Philanthropies has a history of supporting creative and innovative public art projects in cities around the world.  Bloomberg Philanthropies works in over 120 countries to ensure better, longer lives for the greatest number of people. CURRENT artists Refik Anadol & Peggy Weil perform UnderLA, a site-specific projection created for the 1st Street Bridge with scientific data generated from LA’s aquifers, the layers of porous rock capable of holding and transmitting water.
