Unbannable Library (Union Square)
This is a free event, but registration is required.
The Unbannable Library comes to Union Square as a vibrant public art installation celebrating the freedom to read. Created through collaborations between community groups, high schools, and artist/writer teams, these unique larger-than-life interactive books draw attention to the voices and stories most often subject to censorship. Visitors are invited to turn the giant pages, encounter new works of art and writing, and reflect on the importance of intellectual freedom in our libraries and communities.
Begun in 2023, the Unbannable Library now includes more than forty monumental books that stand together as a powerful statement against censorship and a celebration of the rich and varied voices of our community.
Visitors can also witness ArtLords’ live mural-painting project, a collaborative public artwork celebrating freedom of expression and the power of art to resist censorship.
