UCLA, Caltech, USC Postdoc Winter Ski trip

After a very successful ski trip last year, the Postdoc Associations of Caltech, UCLA, and USC are happy to announce our second joint schools Postdoc Ski Trip to Mountain High Resort (http://www.mthigh.com/site)! Date: Saturday, February 29th, 2020. We are inviting all postdocs and their families to join us. We have secured a discounted group rate for lift tickets, lesson packages, and ski/snowboard rentals. Family with kids (age 3-10) can also enjoy the Children’s Sports Center at a discounted price!

Join your fellow postdocs for a fun day of skiing/snowboarding! I you would like to come and hang out on the Mountain, but don't ski or snowboard, please join us and enjoy the beautiful views and snow! If a number of attendees chose this option, we may be able to coordinate a snow hike. We will also be providing snacks and drinks around lunchtime for all who join us!

To streamline logistics, you may register free of charge on Eventbrite until Tuesday February 18th at midnight. You will then receive an email from the organizers with instructions for payment. Payment will be accepted via Venmo, Zelle (through most major banks) or cash in person to a PDA member. ***Your order is not complete until you have paid for your reservation (instructions in email after registration) by Friday February 21st. Cancellations and refunds will be provided up to 3 days in advance (February 26th, 2020). If you cannot commit until after this date, you are welcome to join us, but you will have to purchase your own, non-discounted, ticket from Mountain High directly). Please RSVP and select the number of each type of ticket you will need to secure your discounted tickets.

Time: We will meet at 7:30AM at Mountain High - return at 5:30/6PM. (Arrive between 7-7:30am to ensure a parking spot at the West Resort. The parking lot fills up by 8AM).

**We highly encourage you to drive and volunteer to bring other Postdocs.

For UCLA-only: This year to encourage carpooling, we are providing a $10 incentive off your lift ticket for each seat you can provide in your car. Ex. give a ride to 1 postdoc, $10 off you ticket, if you bring 2 postdocs, $20 off your ticket. This is a great way to meet other postdocs and save! We will do our best to pair you with someone in your zip code. Each carpool can organize their own departure and arrival time.

Mountain High is Southern California's closest winter resort with NO mountain driving.

Located just an hour and a half from L.A. and Orange County, you won't find an easier drive to the mountains anywhere! Beware that Google Maps is very optimistic - it will likely take longer than GoogleMaps predicts to get to the mountain. Please plan ahead to arrive on-time to meet the organizers and receive your lift tickets. There is NO cell service on the mountain. Instructions will be given by email for those who arrive late, but please do your best to arrive on-time.

From Los Angeles

Mountain High Resort is located just 20 minutes off Interstate 15 making it quick and easy to find. Simply take Interstate 10, the 60 Freeway, or the 210 Freeway East to Interstate 15 North. Exit Highway 138 West. Make a left on Highway 2. You will find Mountain High just three miles past the town of Wrightwood. Travel time from downtown Los Angeles is just 90 minutes.

From Orange County

Take the 91 Freeway to Interstate 15 North. Exit Highway 138 West. Make a left on Highway 2. You will find Mountain High just three miles past the town of Wrightwood. Travel time from Orange County is less than 75 minutes.

From San Fernando and Antelope Valleys

Mountain High is so close to the Antelope Valley that its night lighting can be seen from Palmdale, Lancaster and the entire surrounding area. From the San Fernando Valley take Interstate 5 to Highway 14 North. Exit Pearblossom Highway 138 East. Make a right on Largo Vista. Then follow the signs to Mountain High. Drive time from the junction of Highway 14 and Highway 138 is just 45 minutes.
