Do people tell you that you’re funny? That you should try stand-up? Do you have a suspicion that you might be pretty good at it?  Do you want to get better at public speaking while trying something new? Something creative?
Stand-up comedy is one part writing one part performance. In this five week class we'll learn joke structure, what makes a joke a joke, and when to abandon the rules. We'll hone your natural stage presence to execute your bits, and give you the tools to write future sets. There will be a graduation show at the end to show off to your friends, family, coworkers, and tinder dates. Come laugh, make friends, and start the journey of being a stand-up comedian. Instructors Ralph Cooper & Allan Sidley invite you to take the plunge!

No experience is required. Open to beginners as well as vets.

About the instructors:
Ralph Cooper:
Ralph Cooper started doing comedy back in 2005 because his mother told him he was funny, but got serious in 2010 because his wife said they needed rent. Ralph provides a candid and intelligent approach towards comedy. He gives an intimate look into his life experiences from growing up overseas to college life to raising kids. Ralph has a raw sharp sense of humor that appeals to a broad audience. Ralph has performed throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and Canada at venues such as DC Improv (DC), Eastville Comedy Club (NY), Betty’s (Toronto), and Tysons Comedy Cellar. He has also been featured on television, radio and internet broadcasts, including Capitol Comedy Connection and National Public Radio.

Allan Sidley:
A comedian, improviser and lyricist, Allan is a jack off all trades. Allan's humor is dry, and a little wet from perspiration, usually. He pokes fun at Jews, mostly his Mom & Grandma, and dissects cultural taboos like online dating while balding or being a great +1 for a funeral. Often serious with hints of silly, Allan manages to keep dark topics light-hearted and his audiences on their toes (so stretch your calves). His comedy has been described as, "great for first dates." He's opened (the door for) Sinbad, and toured throughout Eastern Europe in the summer of 2011 (not for comedy, just a fun fact). He did however recently feature at Church Of Satire Comedy Club, Cozzy's Comedy Club, Drafthouse DC, and was a member of the Unkosher Comedy Tour. In addition to managing the Tysons Comedy Cellar he runs comedy shows at Busboys & Poets in Takoma, Shirlington, and 14th & V under his production company <A HREF="http://www.sidleystandup.com" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sidley Standup</A>.
