MAUL
Maul is a death metal band from Fargo, North Dakota that formed in 2017. The six-piece band blends hardcore and sludge influences with themes of doom, death, decay, and dark topics. The band members are Al Nikolas, Garrett Alvarado, Mike Griggs, Robby Anderson, and Anthony Lamb.
TORMENT
Just in case death-core grind machine Torment didn’t already have enough concrete crushing noise power to take down the Thomson Dam, they added a fifth member for its 2023 Homegrown performance. Ears are still bleeding. Led by bearded shriek-master Caden Dudek, Torment includes Connor Slawson on bass, Andrew Olson on drums and now a pair of wrecking ball guitarists: battle-tested veteran Kyle Rudd-Pulkinen and newcomer Matt Erickson. A follow-up to the 2022 full-length Swallow Your Teeth is planned in 2024. Flood warnings will be issued down-scream.
DETEORIATION
Deterioration isa grindcore band from Bloomington, Minnesota that formed in 2003. The band's members are Jim Kahmann on guitar, bass, and vocals, and Joe Kahmann on drums.
SHADOWS OF ME
Shadows of Me is a metalcore project that began in 2005 when Rick Chida and Cory Christofferson began writing music together. They were soon joined by Ryan Gundstrom on the drums and Matt Erickson on bass. Influences of the 2000s era post-grunge and nu-metal are found woven throughout their sound. The band released their album Aurelia, in March 2023.
DISCORD AT DAWN
Hard rock four-piece Discord at Dawn is also known as DAD, a nod to all of the members’ role as parents. DAD writes songs about “science, fiction, science fiction, and sometimes none of that,” according to vocalist Joel Conley, who sings with the “voice of a fallen angel” in some songs and “howls like a wounded wolf” in others. Singing along with him is Andy Morrow, who doubles on guitar. Backing them is Robin Ryme, who sometimes gets released from a monastery basement to rock the bass, and David Anderson, who beat the devil with his own golden drumsticks.
