Gather with us at the 12th annual Block Party!

This is the one night of the year that all of UCLA Luskin comes together!   All incoming and returning students, current and emeriti faculty and alumni from all departments are invited. This is an exclusive event for the UCLA Luskin family.

Please help us welcome the incoming students from all UCLA Luskin departments and reconnect with faculty and alumni at a reception in the scenic Dickson Court North (just south of Perloff Hall).

You can:

  • Meet new UCLA Luskin students and alumni
  • Trade ideas with faculty and research scholars
  • Learn about exciting developments at the School
  • Enjoy the flavors of LA with a variety of food booths and stations
  • Get connected to opportunities, organizations, and events

Food and beverages will be provided. Complimentary parking will be available for UCLA Luskin alumni with RSVP by September 8th. Free parking will not be available for UCLA Luskin alumni who register from September 9th and onwards.

REGISTRATION

Registration is REQUIRED per INDIVIDUAL.

Please note there is only one registration per attendee. All duplicates will be deleted. Registrants must be affiliated with UCLA Luskin.

Walk-ins will not be permitted. No exceptions.

The DEADLINE to register is September 26 @ 11:59pm PDT.

CHECK-IN

Lines will open at 5pm for check-in. Please read carefully for where you need to go to check-in:

1) West Check-In (across from Haines Hall): Incoming and Current Urban Planning and Undergrad Public affairs students and Urban Planning/Undergrad Alumni

2) East Check-In (across from Dodd Hall): Incoming and Current Public Policy and Social Welfare students, PP/SW Alumni, Faculty/Staff, and Luskin Board Members/Donors

Registered student organizations will need to check-in at the East side.

PARKING

On-site parking available at Lots 2 & 3 .

Parking Rates at Pay-By-Space stations - All day: $15, After 4pm: $3-5 (1-2 hours), $10 (all night)

Pay-By-Space only has a limited number of stalls available.

Bruin ePermit allows you to park in blue (after 4:30pm) and general (all-day) parking spaces in Structure 2 or 3, but at an all-day rate. There are considerably more spaces available than the Pay By Space option. To pay for a parking permit ahead of the event, use the Bruin ePermit portal.

NOTE: Pay by space is limited and first come, first serve. You can park anywhere in Lots 2 & 3, except as noted above, with an ePermit.

Frequently asked questions

ACCESSIBILITY/ACCOMMODATIONS: Can I bring my service animal?

Pets are not allowed, but service animals are. Individuals utilizing a service animal must abide by UCLA Policy 135 and documentation will be required. For more information, please refer to the policy here: https://www.adminpolicies.ucla.edu/APP/Number/135.

ACCESSIBILITY/ACCOMMODATIONS: Are there dietary accommodations?

There are vegan and gluten free options available.

ALUMNI: Can alumni bring a plus one?

Unfortunately, alumni will not be able to bring a guest with them to the event. Since the event and student population is growing, there is not enough capacity to accommodate external guests that are not affiliated with the Luskin school.

ALUMNI: Do alumni receive complimentary parking?

Yes, Luskin alumni receive complimentary parking if they register by 9/8/23. If an alumni registers on 9/9/23 and onwards, parking will not be provided.

CHECK-IN: Where do I go to check-in?

West Check-In (near Haines Hall) - Urban Planning, Undergrad, & UP/Undergrad Alumni East Check-In (near Dodd Hall) - Public Policy, Social Welfare, PP/SW Alumni, Faculty/Staff, & Luskin Board Member/Donor NOTE: If you are a dual degree student/alumni, go to either department's check-in.

CHECK-IN: If I have/had a dual degree, where do I go for check-in?

You can go to either of your department's check-in. Your name tag will be printed for both departments.

CHECK-IN: Do I need to print my ticket?

No, a printed ticket is not required at check-in. However, if you'd like to bring it with you in the case that a name tag could not be located for you, then that may be helpful.

DIRECTIONS/PARKING: Where do I park and what are the rates?

There is on-site parking available at Lot 2 and 3. The parking rates are: All day: $15, After 4pm: $3-5 (1-2 hours), $10 (all night).

DIRECTIONS/PARKING: Does paying for parking via the Bruin ePermit reserve my parking?

No, paying via the Bruin ePermit system does not reserve your parking spot; it gives you a permit to park in any available and valid spaces in structure 2 or 3. If you choose to pay ahead of the event, you do not need to pay at the pay station in the lots when you arrive.

DIRECTIONS/PARKING: Can I park anywhere in Lots 2 & 3?

Yes, you may park almost anywhere in Lots 2 & 3 WITH A PERMIT. Blue permit areas are permitted after 4:30pm but XPermits are prohibited at all times. If you don't have a permit and opt to take your chances with pay by space, note that stalls are limited and first come, first serve.

DIRECTIONS/PARKING: Why is parking so expensive?

Rates are set by UCLA Transportation & Parking. All campus staff, students, and visitors are required to pay for parking, whether they're coming to work, coming to an event, or coming to class. If you have any inquiries or concerns, contact UCLA Transportation & Parking at 310-825-8299.

GENERAL: Are walk-ins allowed?

No, walk-ins will not be permitted. No exceptions!

GENERAL: Can I bring a guest?

No, guests and children are not permitted. This is an 18+ event for only individuals affiliated with the Luskin school.

GENERAL: Is there a dress code?

No, there is no formal dress code; however, there will be opportunities for you to meet with alumni, faculty, and more.

GENERAL: Will the event be cancelled if it rains?

NO! The Block Party will still go on, rain or shine!

GENERAL: What if I don't remember if I registered?

First, check for an email confirmation from Eventbrite. Then, re-register if you cannot find a confirmation as duplicates will be deleted.

GENERAL: What are the wristbands with the tabs given at check-in for?

A wristband has 3 tabs. Each tab can be used for a food, alcohol, or beverage item. You can mix and match amongst the items or use all tabs on one type of item.

GENERAL: What happens if the tabs on my wristband are lost/fall off?

You are responsible for your wristband at all times and if tabs are lost/fall off, you will be unable to acquire another tab to replace them. What you get is what you get. Take care of it!

GENERAL: When do the food and beverage stations open?

All food and beverage stations will be open at 5:30pm.

GENERAL: When are departmental photos?

The departmental photos will take place as follows: 6:20 pm Undergraduate Program 6:25 pm Public Policy 6:30 pm Urban Planning 6:35 pm Social Welfare 6:40 pm All Alumni

GENERAL: Where are the restrooms located?

There are restrooms located at Haines Hall (on the West side check-in) and Dodd Hall (on the East side check-in).

STUDENT ORGS: If I'm registered to table, what time do I need to check-in?

Check-in for Luskin student organizations will be from 4-5pm at the East Side near Dodd Hall. Please look for Luskin staff member, Erin Collins.

STUDENT ORGS: If I'm part of a student organization that will be tabling, do I need to register?

Yes, each student representative of the organization for tabling needs to register for the event to be allowed entry.
