Learn Seon Buddhist Meditation originated from American Mahayana

This class will start in June and continue every Tuesday.

This class is open to everyone regardless ages, religions or cultural backgrounds.

이 수업은 모든 위앙종의 선 명상 프로그램과 마찬가지로 종교, 인종, 나이, 명상 숙련도에 상관없이 누구나 참여가 가능하며, 참여비는 전액 무료입니다. 이 선 명상 수업은 매주 화요일 동대입구역 도보 2분 거리에 위치한 “우리함께빌딩” 6층 법당에서 열릴 예정이어서, 바쁜 직장인부터 대학생, 주부, 자영업자 등도 쉽게 참여할 수 있습니다.

This Seon Buddhist meditation class is organized by Buddhist nuns from Mahayana tradition. You can learn from the basics to advanced meditation techniques. The venue is located near Dongguk universtiy station (2 ~ 3 mins from the metro station).

서양 문화에 익숙한 젊은 세대와 현대인에게 딱딱하고 전통적인 분위기가 아닌, 격식 없고 자유로운 분위기에서 배울 수 있는 선 명상 수업입니다. 참여자는 그룹 명상 전후 언제든 자유롭게 질문할 수 있으며, 이를 통해서 일상생활과 명상 수행 중 직면하는 다양하고 어려운 문제와 장애에 현실적이고 실질적인 해결책을 구할 수 있습니다. 따라서 참여자는 각 개인의 성황, 성향과 목표에 맞는 지도를 받을 수 있습니다.

This meditation session will be taught in a free atmosphere, instead of a typical hard and traditional atmosphere, for the younger and modern people who are accustomed to Western culture. Participants can freely ask questions before and after group meditation, which allows them to find realistic and practical solutions to various difficult problems and obstacles they face in their daily lives as well as during meditation. Thus, participants can receive guidance that suits each individual's needs and goals.

선 명상은 선정의 힘이라 불리는 집중력을 체계적으로 발전시켜 줍니다. 그러므로 참여자는 명상을 통해서 마음의 평화, 차분함과 고요함만 경험하는 것이 아니라, 일상에서도 다양한 측면에서 끊임없이 발전할 수 있습니다. 직장이나 가정, 인간관계에서 겪는 다양한 문제를 더 수월하게 해결하고 다스리고 싶다면, 체계적으로 훈련할 수 있는 선 명상을 배워보십시오.

This seon meditation systematically develops concentration, which is called samadhi power. Therefore, participants can not only experience peace, calmness, and stillness in their minds through meditation, but also constantly improve in various aspects of their daily lives. If you want to learn how to solve various problems you encounter at work, at home, and in human relationships, learn this Seon meditation, in which you can train systematically.

지도법사: 현공

2020년 이화여대 철학과에서 최우등 학사로 졸업하고, 2020년부터 청주 보산사에서 수행했다. 2021년 미국 영화 스님을 은사로 출가하였으며, 2022년 미국 위산사와 법장사에서 승가 집중훈련을 받았다. 출가 후 보산사 역대 주지스님들 곁에서 시자생활을 해왔으며, 영화 스님의 법문을 녹취, 번역하는 일에 참여하고 있다.

Instructor: HyeonGong Sunim
She graduated from Ewha Womans University's Department of Philosophy in 2020, and has practiced at Jeweled Mountain Temple since 2020. In 2021, she left home-life under Master YongHua and became a Buddhist nun. After that, she received intensive sangha training at Wei Mountain Temple and Dharma Treasury Temple in the United States. Since joining the sangha, she has been working as an assistant next to the former abbots of Jeweled Mountain Temple and was involved in transcribing and translating Master YongHua's Dharma talks.

Our style of Mahayana Practice originates from the Orthodox Lineage that Great Master Xuan Hua brought to the United States from China in the 1960s. The Great Master's meditation teachings are amongst the most profound of Mahayana, and are rooted in a more than 2,000 year old tradition. As a patriarch of one of the main lineages of Buddhism, the Great Master knew mediation well.
