Registration is now open for the 2019 IPE Fall Symposium brought to you by the Office of Interprofessional Education at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.  The focus of the IPE Fall Symposium is to bring healthcare professionals together to learn about, from, and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve overall patient health. 
 
This year's symposium topic is Building Resiliency for Interprofessional Practice: A Healthier, Happier You.
Keynote Session 1:
A Healthier, Happier You: Manage Stress, Prevent Burnout, and Live a Resilient Life - Dr. Susan Biali
Susan Biali, MD - Dr. Biali is an award-winning medical doctor, health expert, coach, speaker, author, and flamenco dancer.  She helps people worldwide to improve their health, decrease the impact of stress, and live more meaningful lives that make a difference.
Dr. Biali has studied the principles of wellness, nutrition, life balance, stress management, burnout, and psychology for over 20 years.  Formerly clinically depressed and burned out, Dr. Baiali has applied the very principles she teaches to her own life, transforming her circumstance and health.
Dr. Biali has been featured as a coach and wellness expert on The Today Show and The Ricki Lake Show, and her opinions appear frequently in media such as Self, Fitness, Redbook, Health, Martha Stewart Living, The Washington Post, and The Chicago Tribune.  She blogs for Psychology Today.com, and was a health columnist and "Embrace Life Expert" for Reader's Digest Best Health.
In addition to her Doctorate of Medicine and Bachelor's of Science in Dietetics from the University of British Columbia, Dr. Biali has received numerous awards, including the Rakesh Goel Prize for most outstanding clinical skills, the UBC Medal in Dietetics, and the Woman of Worth Award in Health and Wellness.  She attends courses in preventative and lifestyle medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Keynote Session 2:
Beyond "Self-Care": Reducing Secondary Trauma by Enhancing Wellness - Michael Gomez, PhD
Michael Gomez, PhD -is a Licensed Psychologist (in both the states of Texas and Oklahoma) and Assistant Professor in the Pediatrics Department of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.  Dr. Gomez’s research interests are child maltreatment, foster children, autism spectrum disorders, and children/adolescents with sexual behavior problems.  Dr. Gomez’s has been certified as a trainer in numerous specialty areas and is one of a dozen people in the United States who makes up the Trauma and Autism Community of Practice for the NCTSN.  He is also one of only a handful of people in the United States trained to assess and differentiate traumatic stress and autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in a formal psychological evaluation.

<H2>The morning session of the 2019 IPE Fall Symposium will be broadcast to all TTUHSC campuses from the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.</H2>
<H2>Each TTUHSC campus will host a case based learning activity for all students during the afternoon session. The afternoon session will also include a team based learning activity. </H2>
 
The IPE Fall Symposium is a registered TTUHSC IPE Learning Activity and participating students who attend the afternoon session will receive a certificate for their attendance.

The Office of Interprofessional Education is bringing ZOOM to TTUHSC distance learning students.  Zoom will be available in the morning session to the first 500 registrants either in a classroom setting or individual setting, on a first come, first serve basis.  Zoom is restricted to distance learning students only who are registered in any TTUHSC online program.

Individual Campus Information: 
Lubbock - The Fall Symposium will be hosted from the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.  Registration opens at 8:00 am.  Wi-Fi passcodes will be available to view and download the Symposium App from Guidebook and to view the case study information.  Individual student case study assignments will be made available the week of the symposium and will be downloaded into Guidebook.  
Abilene - The Fall Symposium will be held at the TTUHSC Abilene campus.  Room assignments will be posted during the month of October.  Individual student case study assignments will be made available the week of the symposium and will be downloaded into Guidebook.  
Amarillo - The Fall Symposium will be held at the TTUHSC Amarillo campus.  Room assignments will be posted during the month of October.  Individual student case study assignments will be made available the week of the symposium and will be downloaded into Guidebook.  
Dallas SW & VA -  The Fall Sympoisum will be held at the Dallas Marriott Suites Medical / Market Center.  The Marriott is located near the TTUHSC SW Campus in Dallas.  The address is 2493 North Stemmons Freeway (214-905-0050).  Registration in Dallas will open at 8:30 am.  Individual student case study assignments will be made available the week of the symposium and will be downloaded into Guidebook.
Midland/Odessa - The Fall Symposium will be held at the TTUHSC Odessa campus in the new event center building.  Individual student case study assignments will be made available the week of the symposium and will be downloaded into Guidebook.

The 2019 Fall Symposium will be held (originate) at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.  The morning session will be TechLinked to all TTUHSC campuses and each campus will host their own case study activity.

<LI>Why has the IPE Fall Symposium been moved to the Lubbock Civic Center?</LI>
</UL>
The Office of Interprofessional Education is pleased to offer this change of venue for the IPE Fall Symposium.  With a  new venue that seats up to 1,400 people, we are able to offer a "live" seat to all of our Lubbock participants as well as extend the symposium to other healthcare professionals in the community.

<LI>Is all day attendance at the IPE Fall Symposium required?</LI>
</UL>
Full day attendance at the entire IPE Fall Sympoisum is not required.  The morning session is intended for all audiences and the afternoon session is geared towards students.  It is recommended that students attend both the morning keynote session and the afternoon case-based learning activity, as the case selection is designed for student interaction in interprofessional teamwork and collaboration.  The afternoon portion of the IPE Fall Sympoisum is a registered IPE Learning Activity and all students attending will receive a certificate of participation to take back to their individual schools.

<LI>Is there a dress code for the symposium?  What do I need to bring?</LI>
</UL>
There is not a dress code to attend the symposium.  Please bring any materials that you feel might be beneficial to your team for the case study discussion.  Copies of the case will be released two weeks prior to the symposium and will be available on the Guidebook app.

<LI>What is the target audience for the morining session?</LI>
</UL>
The morning session is ideal for all faculty, students, staff, and administration.  Dr. Biali's experiences and discussion on wellness, reslielency, and avoiding burnout are compelling for all audiences.

<LI>Can I attend the symposium if I am outside TTUHSC?</LI>
</UL>
Those outside TTUHSC are welcome to attend the symposium!  We encourage collaboration with other university programs and students.  When selecting your individual ticket, plese scroll down to the bottom and select other (non TTUHSC participant). Please indicate on your registration form any affiliations you may have within the healthcare professions.  Participants outside of the education setting are also welcome to attend.  Please use the guest registration selection.

In order to facilitate room assignments and the needs of the IPE Fall Symposium, a registration deadline is firmly set for October 11, 2019.  Those wanting to register outside this time period can contact the IPE office to see if space is available.

The Office of Interprofessional Education is pleased to offer all symposium handouts and case study information through the Guidebook app.  The app can be downloaded from the app store that supports your smart phone, android, or computer/tablet/laptop.   Sympoisum materials can be downloaded through the following link (coming soon):  The information in Guidebook will be updated as it draws closer to the event.
