Three transcendental musical naturescapes give voice to Nature — sharing her mysteries, memories and secrets. The concert opens with Lyric for Strings by George Walker, the first African-American to receive the Pulitzer Prize. His work conveys the power and resilience of the human spirit to find truth and transcendence -- even during the darkest of times.In Ralph Vaughan Williams’s ravishingly beautiful The Lark Ascending for solo violin and orchestra, LSO’s own concertmaster, Jie H. Kim represents the luminous lark as a symbol of nature’s beauty and transcendence as the lark soars above the world — above the fray. In a related theme, Ottorino Resphigi’s Pines of Rome so magically conjures the pine trees as they share their stories and secrets from times past — they are the keepers of truth and transcend time and space.The LSO will premiere Traveler in the Mist by Kim Allen Kluge and Kathryn Kluge. The work is inspired by David Grann's groundbreaking book, Killers of the Flower Moon and in this piece, the blackjack trees share their secrets as the silent witnesses to the atrocities suffered by Oklahoma's Osage Indians in the early 20th century.The remarkable Melichenko family will bring home the struggle for freedom in a performance that explodes with youthful energy and infectious spirit.Concert program:<ul><li>Ralph Vaughn Williams – Lark Ascending; soloist - Jie H. Kim, violin</li><li>George Walker – Lyric for Strings</li><li>The Melichenko Family (Visiting Musicians from Ukraine) – Myroslav Skoryk's Melody, Coldplay's Viva La Vida, Billie Eilish's Bad Guy and It’s a Wonderful World</li><li>Kim Allen Kluge and Kathryn Kluge – Traveler in the Mist (world premiere)</li><li>Ottorino Respighi – Pines of Rome</li></ul>Doors open 30 minutes before the concert. The program will include intermission and run for approximately 2.25 hours. Seating is general admission.Passport Program - T he Loudoun Symphony participates in the Passport Program which makes available a number of FREE tickets for Women, Infant and Children (WIC) cardholders.
