JCTC presents The Truth directed by Piotr Borowski and performed by Studium Teatralne, is a performance about the absence of the sacred, the lack of metaphysics and truth; it exposes life devoid of any mystery, where there is no feeling for life’s meaning and purpose. The protagonist of this play is someone who does not appear on the stage, and the stage itself is taken by the striving for knowledge, for a new creation, as well as by aggression, the survival instinct, envy, insatiability and usurpation that claims a monopoly on the truth. The performance draws from the original texts of the ecumenical councils as well as from the text of the Grand Inquisitor from Dostoyevsky's “Brothers Karamazov”.Director Piotr Borowski was an actor and musician in Poland’s noted experimental theater Gardzienice in the 70’s and 80’s. In 1975, he was a member of Jerzy Grotowski’s “Laboratorium” Theatre and from 1985 to 1993, was active in Grotowski’s Workcenter in Pontedera, working on Grotowski’s last project, called “Performer.” He founded an independent company in Warsaw in 1995 which was incorporated as Studium Teatralne (Studio Theatre Association) in 1997. Since the very beginning of Studium Teatralne, the group operates as an independent theatre company, exercising freedom of association and aims at deepening and spreading the feeling of an artistic truth, putting a particular emphasis on reaching to the young generation. There he has created many theatrical works among others: „Miasto” (City) (1996), „Pólnoc” (Midnight) (1998), „Czlowiek” (Man) (2001), „Parsifal” (2004), „Hamlet” (2005), „Nizynski” (2005), „Henryk Hamlet Hospital” (2006), „Bramy raju. Krucjata dziecieca” (The Gates to Paradise. Children’s Crusade) (2007), „Król kier znów na wylocie” (King of Hearts is Off Again) (2008), “Linia powrotu” (The line of return) (2010), “Co sie stalo z nasza bajka?” (2012), “Szepty ziemi” (Whispers of the Earth) (2014), “Party: take (a)part” (2015), “Deadline” (2016), Przebudzenie (2017), “Prawda” (2018). The Rehearsal for Truth theater festival honoring Vaclav Havel provides a platform for artists from the Central Europe to perform in New York City. The Rehearsal for Truth is organized by Vaclav Havel Library Foundation and BBLA, in partnership with Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Slovak cultural institutes and performing arts institutions to highlight Havel’s legacy as a playwright through live performances, panel discussions, exhibitions and an award ceremony.Visit<a href="https://www.vhlf.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> www.vhlf.org</a> to learn more about Vaclav Havel Library Foundation.
