Reflective fall walk at Glen Emerald Lake exploring seasonal change, forest rhythms, and community restoration.

TREES, TRANSITION & TIME

Tuesday, October 14, 2025 | 8:00–10:30 a.m.

Take a reflective fall walk around Glen Emerald Lake and experience the beauty of a forest in transition. This 1.5-hour hike invites participants to notice the seasonal shifts unfolding in real time — the changing colors, textures, and rhythms that remind us how trees mark time and renewal. Things you may notice include the subtle signs of leaves loosening their hold, pine needles and cones settling to the ground as a landscape prepares for rest.

Orange “reflection cones” placed along the trail will guide our journey, offering moments to pause, observe, and connect with the living landscape. Each stop will spark conversation about forest cycles, community stewardship, and the role of ongoing restoration efforts in keeping this special park healthy and thriving.

What to Expect:

  • A gentle 1.5-hour loop walk around Glen Emerald Lake
  • Orange “reflection cones” for immersive observation and conversation
  • Insights into seasonal change and forest renewal
  • An easy, welcoming space to slow down and connect with nature

This program is the second in a two-part series inspired by the DeKalb History Center’s article on the Glen Emerald Rock Garden and Lake, written by Marissa Howard, which highlights the deep connection between people, history, and nature in this park.
