Learn how to start identifying native trees!
If you have ever marveled at the beauty of a healthy forest and wondered about the composition of trees within, this hike is for you! Tree identification can be tricky, but through this session you will learn to ID trees by observing foliage, bark, branch structure and more. We will explore the unique characteristics of various tree types, identifying species as we go.
What to Expect and How to Prepare: This event will include a 1.5-mile hike through the woods, taking time to stop and ID trees as we go. The trail surface contains some elevation changes as well as uneven surfaces. Bring a notepad and pencil to take notes if desired; a camera or cellphone can be helpful. Dress for the weather and bring personal drinking water. Hiking poles are optional. There is a port-a-john available on site.
This event is recommended for ages 12 and up (participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult).
