A three-day training series for healthcare providers and community partners to improve the integration of trauma informed care in dental practice. Dinner served at 5:30 pm, presentation begins at 6:00 pm.

March 12th - Motivational Interviewing (MI) 
Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered communication approach used for eliciting behavior change by helping clients explore and resolve ambivalence. The goal of using motivational interviewing is to help patients move through the stages of readiness for change in dealing with risky or unhealthy behavior

<LI>M.I. decreases resistance by first changing the language of providers</LI>
<LI>M.I. practitioners use skillful, intentional questions to elicit Change Talk (speech that favors change) and D.A.R.N.(Desire, Ability, Reasons, Need) in patients, instead of making statements that evoke resistance</LI>
<LI>The extent to which patients verbally defend status quo will be inversely related to their behavioral change</LI>
<LI>The extent to which patients verbally argue for change will be directly related to the their behavioral chang</LI>

Welcoming guest speaker Jonnae Tilllman...
Jonnae Tillman  is in her 17th year as a trainer, researcher, and consultant in Motivational Interviewing (M.I.). and is a member of MINT (Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers), an international organization committed to research, training, and practice. Jonnae has degrees in psychology and addiction medicine from Seattle University. She designs trainings for Nurse Family Partnership, Washington State Department of Corrections, Migrant Head Start, and domestic violence prevention agencies. Jonnae regularly presents at national and international conferences, and is currently a psychiatric nurse practitioner doctoral student (DNP) at Seattle University."
April 9th - The Science of HOPE
Research tells us that hope is the single best predictor of a person’s ability to thrive and flourish. People who have hope are more productive at work, they are higher achievers, attain higher academic success and they are healthier, with lower rates of depression and PTSD.  As part of the survey process, Hope Thurston plans to educate the community about hope and what Hope Theory is and how it works, and they will share the idea that hope is contagious.
Welcoming guest speaker Jon Tunheim...
Jon Tunheim attended law school at the University of Puget Sound School of Law, and was later appointed as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. During his career, Jon was a leader in the effort to create Monarch Children's Justice and Advocacy Center, an organization providing coordinated services to child victims of abuse and neglect. A graduate of Leadership, Jon was named a "21st Century Leader" by The Olympian, and a "Champion for Kids" by TOGETHER!
