Our free six-week training series for early educators will help you gain knowledge about the impact of trauma on a child’s development.

Our free six-week training series for early educators will help you gain knowledge about the impact of trauma on a child’s development, help you understand historical trauma, and learn strategies to prioritize your own well-being. All sessions will be held in person at Children’ Council of San Francisco (445 Church Street, room 120), meeting on Thursdays from April 27th thru June 1st, from 6-7:30pm. Participants are encouraged to attend all six sessions.

One of these great books and toys will be given to all participants at the end of each session of this six-week training. All series participants will be entered in a raffle to win the privacy cube.

Agenda

Recognize trauma and know how to respond to triggers. Learn what ACES stands for and its effect. Identify the four types of trauma and differentiate between unhealthy and healthy responses.

4/27 - Week 1: Introduction to Trauma, 6-7:30pm

Learn about neuroplasticity and neural connections, and their impact on a healthy provider/child relationship. Build routines for predictability, learn about brain pathways, identify words to describe sensations for children, and strategize ways to provide a safe environment.

5/4 - Week 2: Neuroscience: Creating Positive Childhood Experience, 6-7:30pm

Learn the difference between compassion fatigue and burnout, and in turn, how to better support children. Identify triggers, explore the impact of stress and learn why putting yourself first is so important.

5/11 -  Week 3:  Compassion Fatigue vs. Burnout Thu, 6-7:30pm

Strategize ways to care of yourself and recognize when your body needs a break. Learn how to provide high quality care for children who have experienced trauma.

5/18 - Week 4: Self-Care,  6-7:30pm

Learn about yourself and your culture, and understand what intergenerational, transgenerational, and historical trauma is. Become more self-aware about how our ancestors' trauma impacts our lives today and in the future.

5/25 - Week 5: Who Am I?  6-7:30pm

Explore epigenetics and how it relates to working with children, as well as the impact of toxic stress, racism, trauma and ACES, particularly for children of color. Learn to better support children who have experienced historical trauma in a positive non-biased way.

6/1 - Week 6: Introduction of Historical Trauma, 6-7:30pm
