Safe Place Ministriesprovides support and care to men and women serving in missions and ministry. Having staff that has lived and served both in international and stateside ministry expressions, they understand and are trained to help individuals navigate some of the dynamics that come along with that. <H2>Why be trauma informed?</H2>
Trauma comes in many forms. For some trauma looks like years of sexual abuse and neglect, for others it’s witnessing a traumatic event or violence, still others it’s abandonment or divorce, and for some it’s walking through a physical or mental health crisis. The list goes on and on.
To be trauma informed involves Realizing this widespread impact of trauma and understanding potential paths for recovery; Recognizing the signs and symptoms of trauma in individuals involved; Responding by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into practice; and lastly actively resisting Retraumatization.
Everyone experiences trauma. Whether directly impacted by it or closely connected to someone walking through it, anyone who interacts with other people has been touched in some way by trauma. And it is not just professional counselors and therapists who need to know how to help others with this trauma.
Jesus’ ministry was trauma informed. Like a physician treating the sick, Jesus came for the broken. He understood and met the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of those around Him. He saw pain and felt compassion to act. Desiring to follow Jesus’ example though can be difficult when trauma is so prevalent and diverse. The best place to start – is to be informed.
Helping Others Heal: A Trauma Informed Biblical Approach to Care in Ministry, Work, School and Life is a 2-day seminar taught by licensed professionals with years of experience. Through a combination of group seminars and smaller breakout sessions attendees will gain:
